SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA— Bay Area Uber driver Bill Jannotti recently shattered his collar bone in a car accident while driving for Uber. Due to his status as an independent contractor without health insurance, he has decided to ice the injury in hopes that it will eventually heal.
“I’d like to go to the doctor to get it checked out, but my status as an independent contractor makes it a bit challenging,” said Bill.
“It honestly isn’t that bad, I’m just going to do a heating-icing cycle for a few days,” he said while trying to rotate his arm and wincing in pain. “I think I’ll be able to go back to driving in a few days once this all blows over.”
“We’d like to help our Uber drivers with their medical expenses,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi in a recent interview regarding benefits for drivers.
“Right now we just provide aspirin, tea, and low-cost ice packs for drivers, but we’re hoping we can eventually move into the homeopathic drug market as well to ensure all of our driving partners are healthy and happy,” the executive continued convincingly.
